The question
Did price return inside a reference identified before the excursion?
- Identify the prior high or low without using future candles.
- A wick or reclaim does not prove stop locations, hidden orders or manipulation.
- The illustrated bullish reclaim can fail; a bearish mirror needs separate evaluation.
Mark the reference before the move.
A prior swing high, low or completed range boundary can provide a reference. Define which extreme matters, the observation interval and how it was recognized before an excursion occurs. Selecting only the levels that later reversed is hindsight.
The phrase liquidity sweep is commonly used for a move beyond such a reference. A candle chart alone cannot prove that stops were clustered there, that particular orders traded or why any participant acted. This guide uses the term as a description of price behavior, not a claim about hidden intent.
Separate excursion, reclaim and confirmation.
The synthetic example moves below a previously identified low, then closes back above it. A later possible long observation follows. The excursion, return and candidate entry are different events with their own timing; they should not be collapsed into a guaranteed reversal.
Define whether a return means a trade, a completed close or another stated observation. A short-side version above a prior high is a different candidate and requires its own evaluation. Repeated crossings may describe ordinary range activity rather than a useful setup.
Define how the reclaim can fail.
For the pictured long-side scenario, a move below the excursion is one conceptual invalidation location. It is not a universal stop formula. An actual plan needs its own levels, and fast markets can produce a worse stop fill.
The objective is a possible destination, not an achieved result. A temporary return can fail and the original decline can continue. Spread, slippage and a late available entry can change the distance to both invalidation and objective.
Evaluate the failures as well as the reversals.
Retain failed reclaims, repeated excursions, quiet periods and news-related conditions in a research record. Define data, timing, costs and exclusions before assessing unseen observations. Attractive wicks and selected examples do not establish an edge.
